A SPRINGTON MEMORIAL.

(Subject of Illustration.)

An interesting ceremony was performed by Mr. Angas Parsons, M.P., K.C., at Springton recently, when he unveiled a monument erected in memory of the young men of the district who lost their lives in the war. The monument, a photograph, of which appears in 'The Chronicle,' is a handsome pillar of granite, sat in a small kerbed garden plot. Reference was made by the speakers to the patriotism and sacrifice displayed by the men in whose memory the ceremony was being held. The speakers were Messrs. Angas Parsons, Noel Webb (Deputy President of the Industrial Court), and the Rev. F. W. Wilkinson and J. Nancarrow. The members of the committee were Messrs. J. Naughton (chairman), Rohrlach, W. Roesler, and H. Graeby. ...

SPRINGTON.

The Australian grey granite monument erected by the residents to perpetuate the memory of those soldiers associated with Springton, who fought in the great war was unveiled on the 25th October by Mr. Angas Parsons, M.P., who was introduced by the Chairman of the committee (Mr. J. J. Naughton). The monument was veiled with the seventh war loan honor flag, and, when Mr. Parsons removed this, it was seen that the stone contained 13 names, four of which were those of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice. Mr. Parsons complimented the committee and residents on their admirable choice of design and material. The Rev. Mr. M. Wilkinson offered a prayer. Addresses were also given by Mr. Deputy-President Webb, of Adelaide, who accompanied Mr. Parsons, and the Rev. J. Nancarrow, "The Song of Australia," a vote of thanks, and the presentation of a silver-mounted soldiers' memorial button to Mr. Parsons (made by Mrs. W. Forrest, sen., who had two sons at the front) closed the ceremony. Afternoon tea was provided in the hall. In the evening a concert in aid of the funds was given by visitors from surrounding districts, notably Charleston Dramatic Club, which presented a farce, "Spring Cleaning," to an appreciative audience. The proceeds for the day and evening exceeded £20. This, with money previously raised, will about cover the cost of the memorial, £100. Credit is due to the untiring Hon. Secretary, Mr. B. H. Graetz.
