Soldiers' Memorial Hall, Melrose street, plane trees, telegraph
Soldiers' Memorial Hall, Melrose street, poppies, Anzac commemoration, Remembrance Day

The History Room was a dream of the Soldiers' Memorial Hall Advisory Committee in the late 1990s. A collection of material had been kept and the former Reading Room of the Institute building was prepared, with a view to storing a collection which would be available to the public for perusal.

The end result of this dream is the History Room, which is the repository for historical material pertaining to the district generally, so includes items from Eden Valley, Springton, Mount Pleasant, Tungkillo and Palmer.

We are open each Thursday from 1pm to 4pm,

or by appointment at other times.

For enquiries please contact Paula Bartsch at 08 8568 2126 or email pleasanthistory@gmail.com

We specialise in a collection of mostly paperbased material pertaining to the Mount Pleasant district. Our collection of photographs is growing and we are happy to accept donations of memorabilia e.g. trophies, letters, minute books, photographs and the like.

If you don't know what to do with something pertaining to the district, then let us make the decision.

After the publication of the local history book "The Quiet Waters By : The Mount Pleasant District 1843-1993" by Reg Butler, there was a collection of photographs, newspaper cuttings and information which required a home. In 2004 a request was made to Paula Bartsch, to organise this collection and set up a 'History Room' in the local Hall. An official opening of this room was held on the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Soldiers' Memorial Hall, in November 2006 and this room is still in use today.
